Compare/Contrast: PErspectives on War

For your final portfolio projects, one of your options is to write a compare/contrast essay about two works related to your essential questions about the themes in Lord of the Flies. This essay must use outside literature to explore your essential question. My essential question for this unit is: "Is violence ever justified?" To explore this question, I might do a compare/contrast of the poems "Dulce Et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen and "Who's for the Game" by Jessie Pope.

Your web assignment this week is to help me get ideas about my essay. First, follow the links above and read both of the poems. Then, write one or two paragraphs giving me suggestions about how I could write a compare/contrast about my essential question. Be sure to include textual examples from each of the poems. This means you must directly quote or paraphrase specific parts of the poems. E-mail your paragraphs to me by noon on Sunday, November 17th. Please be sure to use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar for this assignment. This assignment will be graded using the "Web Assignments Rubric" in your syllabus.
